Building a School Culture of Mindfulness

The children we work with are digital natives living in an accelerated culture.  In today’s fast-paced society, a child may speak three languages, have the ability to do higher level math, and have a near-perfect ACT score.  However, if that child cannot regulate his or her emotions, that child will not reach full potential in school or in life.  Facilitating a school culture of mindfulness will enable students to develop better self-awareness, decrease impulsivity, increase focus, and establish a greater capacity for compassion for self and others.  In addition, a daily mindfulness practice for teachers and administrators will decrease burn-out and help cultivate better habits of self-care.  This scientifically-based, no-nonsense one- hour session is straight forward in its approach and will offer helpful, tangible take-aways for all school constituents.
