MENTAL HEALTH SERIES Session 4

Oppositional Behavior

May 11th at 12:00pm CDT/1:00 PM EDT

Presenter: Caitlin Rissler, NP

As educators and caregivers, we often find it challenging to correct oppositional behavior in children. The reasons for oppositional behavior may not be readily apparent, but knowledge of normal development and potential underlying problems can help us understand the function of behavior.  This talk will equip us with an understanding of these contributing factors as well as researched-backed interventions so that we can confidently work with children and teens to improve behavior.

Objectives:
1. Review normal stages of child development and red flags for abnormal behavior
2. Identify factors that lead to oppositional behavior
3. Address underlying diagnoses that are associated with oppositional behavior
4. identify research-based methods to reduce oppositional behavior in children and teens
5. Explore resources to support school faculty in working with students with oppositional behavior

This is the last in a four-part series on Mental Health. Registration includes all four sessions. Although live attendance is highly encouraged, recordings will be made available to all registrants.

TAIS Members: $40 per person / $30 per person if 3 or more registrants per school
