Description/Outcomes of Workshop:
The aim of this workshop is for educators to experience a Narrative 4 story exchange and then learn to plan and conduct the same in their own settings. The story exchange is a strategy for provoking curiosity, empathy, and engagement between individuals and has been used by N4 for over a decade to connect and inspire human beings from around the world. Narrative 4 combines the story exchange method with learning resources designed to carry the skills of storytelling and deep listening into areas of social-emotional learning, civic engagement, artistic creativity, and school climate.

Presenters:  
Evan Barker
is a Southeast Regional Manager for Narrative 4, responsible for AR, TN, KY, WV, VA, NC, and SC. He began his career as an orchestra musician before accidentally becoming a bookseller and then an English teacher, coming to N4 after eight years in the secondary classroom. He believes that language is humanity’s greatest achievement and hopes to spend his whole career propagating the word in the service of understanding and peace. He holds a B.M. in Viola Performance and a B.A. in English from Middle Tennessee State University and an M.A. in Teaching English from the University of Kentucky. He lives in Richmond, Kentucky with his wife and two children.

 
 

Amanda Cantrell Roche divides her time between working as a teaching artist in schools and community settings, creating narrative art, and advising and training for Narrative 4. Versed in restorative arts, somatic practices, journalism, dance, and arts integration, Amanda brings 20 years experience of in collaborative school residencies and arts-immersion professional development for teachers to her work with N4. Her alchemy is most powerful when she combines a trilogy of her deepest passions: choreography, writing, and social justice. 

 

TAIS Board-Approved Cancellation Policy
Attendees will receive a full refund for an in-person event if they cancel up to three weeks prior to the event and a 50% refund up to two weeks before the event. Refunds are not possible after two weeks prior to the event due to the costs incurred for food orders and other administrative and setup fees. All refunds will reflect a 15% administration fee.
